Pedro Pont Vergés (1924 - 2003)

 

Pedro facing Pedro He was born in the Argentine province of Corrientes. In 1934 he settled in Córdoba, where he lived until 1967 when he moved to Buenos Aires. Between 1978 and 1984 he lived in Madrid, Spain. A graduate of the School of Arts of Córdoba National University, he later held two chairs as a Professor in that University. He worked actively in various cultural fields, fostering the creation of Prizes, Exhibitions and Biennials. In 1967 he was appointed General Director of Culture and between 1984 and 1991 he held the positions of Director of Visual Arts, Director of Artistic Activities and Director of Cultural Action for the Department of the Interior of the province of Córdoba.

He took part in numerous collective and individual exhibitions not only in Argentina but also in several Latin American countries, in Europe and in the United States.

In 1965 he received the Special Prize for the best collection of Drawings at the VIIth Biennial of Sao Paulo (Brazil). In 1982 he was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Scholarship in Painting
